Finally getting around to doing a bunch of work on the Cherokee and while changing the fuel filter, I happened to notice the rubber hose that goes from the filter to the gas tank a foot or so away.
Totally dry rotted by the connection to the tank.

Yeah, I'll be replacing that too.

Well since my Cherokee is 19 years old I most certainly will be adding this to the growing list of stuff I have to do to it.

Yeah after I replaced my cats, I smelled gas. My hard line was rusted through.

It's smart to check these things, but aren't these checked during the yearly safety inspection as well?
/yes, I know not every location has these. They should though.

I actually had planned on doing a "rubber check" whenever it stops with the damn rain and 90+ heat around here. I think I'm a bit premature on this, but oh well.

Not in my house. That's right baby, no e-check for this guy. HAHAHAHAHA.
Sorry, I got a little carried away.

My 33 year old* Fiat is good, in that respect.
*The fuel lines, filters, injectors, pump and hoses are six months old.

I imagine every part on a 33 year old Fiat is less than 10 years old.

I had the fuel filler neck rust out on my old Subaru. I was a little surprised at how cheap the part ended up being.

Including the jackstands it's sitting on in the driveway 24/7.

You would think so.... but no.
They care more whether you've changed anything/anything that's not stock, and what the computer says. There's some safety stuff like tires, brakes, lights all working and no wheelplay or excessive rust but they would never check the fuel lines here in Mass. and our inspection is on the stricter side.

Nope. All they care about are codes showing, brakes, tires, steering, and lighting.
Yeah, it's really crappy.
